The Gift of Showing Up

The world is a beautiful and difficult place.

Some days we'll wake up feeling optimistic and confident about what we can offer the world, and other days we'll wake up feeling downbeat and unsure.

No matter how you feel, the biggest gift you can offer the world is to show up.

This morning, I shared this quote from Joanna Macy with my yoga clients:

“The biggest gift you can give is to be absolutely present, and when you're worrying about whether you're hopeful or hopeless or pessimistic or optimistic, who cares? The main thing is that you're showing up, that you're here and that you're finding ever more capacity to love this world because it will not be healed without that. That was what is going to unleash our intelligence and our ingenuity and our solidarity for the healing of our world.”

However, you might feel about the world today, I invite you heed Joanna Macy's advice and show up.

Show up for yourself. Show up for your family members. Show up for your work colleagues. Show up for your friends.

Show up for the daffodils and trees blooming and leafing outside your door. Show up for the robins singing their spring song.

Show up for your body, your mind, and your heart.

When you show up, the world will show up for you, and bit by bit, you'll find your way. You'll find your way to connect, to heal, and to grow, just like the plants in spring.
